What a Rose Taught Me About Research, Mentoring, and the Art of Waiting
"Mignonne, allons voir si la rose..." So begins one of the most famous poems by the sixteenth-century French poet Pierre de Ronsard, whose verses helped immortalize the rose as a symbol of beauty, time, and human aspiration. More than four centuries later, a rose bearing his name sits in my garden. For over a year, I watched it grow. It established roots. It produced leaves and stems. Then, at last, it bloomed. Two flowers. Just two. And they were worth every day of waiting.
